Gentlemen's Relish

The 2001 movie, “Gentleman Relish” was an accurate representation of a particular type of photography created in the early 1900s. Kingdom Swann, the leading actor in the movie was originally a painter and lost his job when photography became the new form of art. Going with the times, Swann decided to take up the art of photography and created beautiful pieces of art. Unfortunately, he hired an assistant that led him to become a pornographic photographer unintentionally. Oddly enough, the main buyer for his business happened to be the richest man in town who wanted to be entered into the House of Lords. In order to succeed this goal, the buyer had to make a stand against a particular subject, which was pornography. The worst part about the whole situation is that Kingdom Swann is being used by his assistant and in completely ignorant of what is going on.
I believe this film was well done, and the photography was very impressive. Historically, the film followed the time frame, which it was meant to be a part of. BBC accurately portrayed the troubles that people of that time were faced with when art made a drastic turn. Both artists’ and upstanding citizens were not thrilled about the change from classy to smut, as they would see it. I think that the movie completely captured the idea that people are hypocritical on various forms of art. However, the times have changed and more artistic nudity is found in numerous forms of art and is not look down upon. This film shows the difference from back in the early 1900s to the early 21st century.
